| Introduction
to the Bar Exam |
| The
bar examination seems like a daunting task to any recent law school
graduate. After graduation, I took and passed the bar exam in three
states within less than a year. I took the basic prep
classes (BarBri/PMBR)
for one of those exams. Completing practice multiple choice and
essay questions is much more important than studying outlines and
listening to lectures through expensive bar prep companies. After passing the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE), most future attorneys take a state bar exam consisting of two or three days of the following: Part 1.) One full day is solely devoted to the national Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) with 200 multiple choice questions tested over 6 hours. The MBE tests black letter law and is administered in 48 states with only Louisiana and Washington state excluded. Part 2.) One or two days of each state bar exam are devoted to at least some of the following: a.) state law essays, b. state multiple choice questions, c. Multistate Essay Examination (MEE), and d. Multistate Performance Test (MPT) My site contains detailed information about what to expect on each part of the bar exam and descriptions of differences between state bar exams. The site also explains basic bar exam terms and describes the process of taking two bar exams at the same time (concurrent admission) and gaining admission by motion (reciprocity). |
